Dr. Okesola Mary Abiola
Head of Department
Profile & Experiences:
Dr. Mary Okesola is a Biochemist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Sciences at Augustine University. She currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department (HOD), where she provides academic leadership and contributes significantly to teaching, research, and departmental administration.
Her research focuses on the biochemical and molecular investigation of medicinal plants for the treatment and management of diseases, particularly tumors and other chronic conditions. She integrates molecular biology, phytochemistry, and genomic techniques to understand the mechanisms through which bioactive compounds from medicinal plants exert therapeutic effects. Her work contributes to the discovery of safer and more effective natural products for disease management.
Dr. Okesola has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in reputable international journals, reflecting her strong commitment to scientific research and innovation in biochemistry and natural product studies. She is actively involved in mentoring students, advancing scientific knowledge, and promoting interdisciplinary research in biochemical sciences.
