Augustine University Marks Wednesday of Holy Week with Call to Recognize True Value Staff, students, and members of Augustine University community gathered in solemn reflection at the Chapel of Mary Mother of the Church, on Wednesday, 1st April, 2026, for the Mass marking the Wednesday of Holy Week. In his homily, the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Andrew Toye, delivered a thought-provoking reflection centered on the theme of “cost, price, and value,” drawing spiritual lessons from the events leading to the betrayal of Jesus Christ. Fr. Toye explained that cost refers to what it takes to produce something, while price is what is paid for it, and value is the true worth it holds. Emphasizing the depth of Christ’s sacrifice, he noted that “the cost of Jesus is immeasurable,” while His value is “timeless and endless salvation for humanity.” Reflecting on the actions of Judas Iscariot, the Chaplain observed that Judas failed to understand true value, focusing instead only on cost. “Judas does not know the value of anything, only the cost,” he said, adding that people often mirror this attitude in their daily lives. He further explained that what individuals truly value, they preserve and care for, but what they fail to value, they treat carelessly and may even discard cheaply. The homily also highlighted the contrast between Judas and Saint Peter. According to Fr. Toye, the greatest sin of Judas was not merely betrayal, but despair. Unlike Judas, Peter recognized his wrongdoing and sought repentance within the community of the apostles. “Peter sinned, but he returned. Judas despaired,” the Chaplain noted, urging the faithful to always turn back to God regardless of their failings.
