Augustine University Hosts Sickle Cell Awareness Campaign in Collaboration with Teekay Foundation

As part of activities marking World Sickle Cell Day, Augustine University, Ilara, in partnership with the Teekay Sickle Cell Foundation, held a Sickle Cell Awareness Campaign on Thursday, 19th June, 2025, at the University’s Convocation Hall.

The event, which drew a large turnout of both students and staff, aimed to educate the University community on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The interactive session featured medical experts, testimonies from individuals living with the condition, and on-the-spot genotype counseling.

Speaking at the event, Representatives from Teekay Sickle Cell Foundation emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, public sensitization, and supportive care for persons living with SCD. 

They also commended Augustine University for its commitment to community health education and student engagement on social issues.
